How to mark items out of stock on Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats
Sold out for today, off until you switch it back, or the whole shop paused: the options on each app, when dishes come back by themselves, and what to do after you have accepted an order.
The short answer
Mark the dish the moment you run out. Each app has a short option that ends by itself and a longer one that lasts until you switch the dish back on. For a dish that runs out mid-service, the app on your kitchen tablet is the fastest place to do it.
Checked against each app's UK help pages on 19 October 2026. Each section names its sources and their dates; Uber's help pages carry no date. We left out help pages written for other countries. MenuSync is an independent service, not affiliated with Just Eat, Deliveroo or Uber Eats.

Just Eat
- Partner HubSwitch the toggle next to the item when it runs out, and switch it back when it is in stock again. Just Eat's UK help does not say whether the toggle resets by itself, so check it the next morning.
- OrderpadOpen the menu, choose Take items off menu, and select the items within their categories. Just Eat says items taken offline this way go back online automatically the next day.

Deliveroo
- In Partner Hub, go to Live Orders and select Stock levels.
- Click the item and choose Sold out today, Hide from menu or In stock.
- Press Save. Deliveroo's page also says to publish your menu for the change to go live.
Deliveroo says Sold out today comes back automatically the following day at opening time, so if you are still out, do it again. Hide from menu keeps the item off until you make it available.
On Order Manager, Deliveroo's newer tablet app, open Stock, find the item and choose In stock, Sold out for today or Off the menu, then Confirm. Deliveroo says Off the menu is not available for all partners. Its help page describes Sold out for today in two ways: as staying unavailable “until your store closes”, and, in a note marked new, as remaining unavailable “until your next working day, instead of automatically becoming available again at midnight”. Check the item on your listing after you open.

Uber Eats
- In Menu Maker, click Overview and open the item.
- Tick Sold out and choose Today or Indefinitely.
- Click Save. A red icon shows next to the item; click it to change the status back.
Uber says Sold out today hides the item until the following day, and Sold out indefinitely keeps it off until you set it to Available. If orders still come in for a sold-out dish, Uber says to check it is marked everywhere: popular items appear twice, under “Most popular” and their own category.

If you run out after accepting an order
- Deliveroo (Order Manager)Tap the three dots on the order, choose Item out of stock, select the items and how long they will be off, tap Confirm, then Cancel order. The order is cancelled, the customer can order again without the item or choose a substitute, and Deliveroo says you are not charged a cancellation fee. Do not prepare the original order.
- Uber EatsTap the order, open order help and choose Out of item, tick the items and tap Confirm. The customer has 10 minutes to carry on or change the order, so wait before you cook. If you do not see the option, a courier may already be on the way; call the customer instead. Uber then offers to mark other items sold out.
- Just EatJust Eat UK's help does not describe a re-order flow. It says to mark the item out of stock and not to substitute it, and that if you reject an order because an item is out of stock, it will ask you to take the item offline.

One dish or the whole shop?
If only some dishes are gone, mark those. If the kitchen cannot cope at all, each app has a pause.
- Just EatIn Partner Hub or its app, go to Home and switch off Taking orders. Just Eat says you go offline until tomorrow and come back online automatically the next day. On the Orderpad, use Stop taking orders. Just Eat also measures the share of time your device is offline.
- DeliverooClose now, then Open now when you are ready: see our guide to Deliveroo opening hours and pausing.
- Uber EatsIn Uber Eats Orders or Uber Eats Manager, choose Pause and a length of time. Uber says a pause only lasts until the end of the day; for longer, change your hours.

What cancelled and rejected orders cost
This is why marking a dish early matters. In each app's own words:
- Just EatYour performance score, out of 100, includes your cancellation rate; Just Eat suggests keeping cancelled orders below 1.3%. Its delivery performance page says to update your menu in real time if items are unavailable, and that “cancellations hurt your visibility and ratings”.
- DeliverooDeliveroo lists rejected orders among the things that influence where you appear in its app, with ratings, prep times, delivery times and opening hours.
- Uber EatsUber says it may automatically pause your store after, for example, consecutive unaccepted orders or store cancellations. Customers then see your restaurant as “currently unavailable” until you resume, or until the next day at store open.

Options, extras and whole categories
None of the three apps' UK help centres explains how to mark a single option or extra, such as one sauce, or a whole category as unavailable. Their pages cover menu items.
Until they do, you can mark each affected dish, or remove the option from the dish and add it back later. That is our suggestion, not an app instruction. If your app shows a control for this, use it: it is simply not in the help pages we read.
Timed menus and dishes listed twice
A dish can be on your menu more than once: on Uber under “Most popular” and its category, and on Deliveroo in each timed menu. Deliveroo's Order Manager page suggests searching for the dish to find every copy. For breakfast and lunch menus, see our guide to scheduling menus.

Off for longer than a day?
For a dish that has run out mid-service, the kitchen tablet is fastest. For a dish off for a week or a season, you can send it to us on WhatsApp and we mark it on all three apps.
